Welcome from Paul

Camp Penuel Costa Rica has a specific focus to give children ages 7-11 the opportunity to know their heavenly Father through Christ Jesus and the abundant life that he offers through the power and love of the Holy Spirit. The Vision is to rally a multi-ethnic team of support to work towards providing facilities of excellence and diversity so that each child can have a wealth of new, safe, and fun experiences that they will remember for their lifetime, but more importantly, that are God-anointed and forever will change their lives for good.

Dear Friends of the Camp,

We’ve kicked off another camping season, and we’re off and running, on the track, that is.  How easy it is to start out the year off and running, but not on the right track.  The track that we’re on pushes the Gospel Train, the train that Jesus conducts, bringing more and more people aboard as the Good News of new life in Jesus through his putting to death our sins and our old life that led to a dead end.  This gospel is being announced with passion by our staff here at the camp, and I pray you, too, receive inspiration this year to stay on track and be an integral part of this gospel train that is stopping in every town, every nation, every tribe and race.

We’ve been introducing the children to the life of Elijah, how he felt alone many times as people would not follow the living Lord and come aboard God’s train.  Instead they followed their own ways.  God demonstrated his power through the prayer life of Elijah, it didn’t rain for three and a half year because this man prayed (James 5:17), fire came down from heaven and destroyed those who would not repent from their wicked ways and purified those who recognized the God of Elijah as the Living God.  We walk in the power of Elijah, now not to bring judgment, as all judgment was placed on Jesus on the cross, but rather to announce his work of returning the hearts of the parents to their children and of the children to their parents  (Malachi 4:6).  This is the power of the cross – being forgiven by the blood of Jesus to forgive those who have offended us (fourth petition of the Lord’s prayer.)

God is drawing us closer to him through repentance of our haughtiness and our need to focus exclusively on the task at hand.  The day of the Lord, the day when Christ will be revealed to the world, is drawing near, and those who receive him now are waiting his coming, not with respect to sin, but respect to saving us whose hope is in him (Hebrews 9: 28).  That’s why we translated this medley of songs into Spanish that sing:

“This train is bound for glory; this train.  This train is bound for glory, this train.  This train is bound for glory; Jesus Christ and the gospel story.  This train is bound for glory, this train.”

“Swing low, sweet chariot, coming forth to carry me home.  Swing low, sweet chariot, coming forth to carry me home.”

“Oh when the Saints go marching in.  Oh when the Saints go marching in.  Oh Lord, I want to be in that number, When the Saints go marching in.”

God is revealing himself to us to encourage us just like he encouraged Elijah as he went through much persecution and loneliness.  He gives us a clear mission: Elijah was told to anoint a new king in Syria, a new King in Israel where he ministered to God’s chosen people who had gone astray, and to appoint his successor Elisha, as Elijah’s time was drawing near to be carried up into heaven.

Our mission is very clear: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that Jesus has commanded us, and the promise is strong, He will be with us always, even to the end of the age.

Thank you for continuing to pray for the work of the camp and its expansion so that the Gospel Train of Jesus continues to gain steam and bring hope to our world.

God bless you and enjoy the pictures of the camp.

Paul
